WHAT I'M READING 📖
and what you should read this summer
“Fun, funny, hard, emotional, and slightly feral from start to finish. A celebrity gossip-soaked, self-help-adjacent takedown of the harmful messages put forth by the same entertainment industry in which Knight’s made a name for herself.” —Shelf Awareness

We’re just four months away from my new book coming out, and so I’m living, eating, sleeping book, book, book. People often ask me why I don’t start a book club or a podcast about books, even though I’m constantly the person that recommends books to other people. It’s because reading is one of the great joys of my life.
I can remember going to the library when I was a kid on my bicycle to smell the books and bring home a stack of books. Long car rides, planes, books have always been my best friends. I don’t even have a goodreads because I don’t want to start making reading some sort of checklist that I have to do. It’s truly something I just do every day because I love it.
I get asked constantly what I’m reading, so I pulled together ten favorites that I think you’ll love too.
I’m heading up to Canada to see my family this week, and I’m going to have extra reading time. I honestly have been a little disappointed by the last couple of books I’ve read, and I’ve been reading on my Kindle, which I don’t think is as enjoyable. I’d love to pick up a few books at the store before I head up on my trip. Please leave in the comments what you’ve read lately that you think I should.
1. Whistler by Ann Patchett
I just finished this book this week and stayed up until 3:00 in the morning finishing it and crying. What a story!!!!! This beautifully written story that shows exactly why Patchett is one of our great contemporary novelists. If you love quiet, character-driven fiction that sneaks up on you emotionally, start here.
2. Good Morning, Monster by Catherine Gildiner
A therapist shares real stories of patients who overcame devastating childhood trauma. It’s raw and heavy at times, but ultimately one of the most hopeful books about resilience I’ve read.
3. Between Two Kingdoms by Suleika Jaouad
A gorgeous memoir about a young woman’s cancer diagnosis and the cross-country road trip she takes after remission to figure out how to actually live again. Equal parts heartbreaking and life-affirming.
4. A Sense of the Infinite by Hilary T. Smith
A coming-of-age novel about a teenage friendship unraveling in the last stretch before college. If you want something introspective and beautifully written about growing up and growing apart, this one’s for you.
5. Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
Told from the perspective of an “Artificial Friend” observing the humans around her, this one will make you think differently about love, loyalty, and what it means to be alive. A GMA Book Club pick for good reason, and it’s about to be a movie staring Jenna Ortega!
6. The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
A family relocates to remote Alaska in the 1970s and things get intense fast. Beautiful, brutal, and impossible to put down, this is Kristin Hannah at her best.
7. Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
Eleanor is awkward, routine-obsessed, and hilarious, but there’s real heartbreak underneath the humor. This one made me laugh and cry within the same chapter more than once. A Reese’s Book Club pick.
8. A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
A grumpy widower’s rigid routine gets upended by his new neighbors in this warm, funny, and ultimately devastating novel about grief and unlikely friendship. One of those books everyone should read at least once. I literally have read every Fredrik Backman’s book after this. I just love the way he writes
9. The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne
A sweeping, decades-spanning story following one man’s life in Ireland. It’s funny, tragic, and one of the most moving novels I’ve read about identity, family, and belonging.
10. A Guardian and a Thief by Megha Majumdar
A gripping, atmospheric novel about survival, family, and desperate choices set against a near-future climate crisis. An Oprah’s Book Club pick that’s as thought-provoking as it is tense.
